Dedh Ishqiya follows the poetic and dramatic journey of two poachers, Khalujaan (Naseeruddin Shah) and his nephew Babban (Arshad Warsi). They get away with stealing a prized royal necklace, but during the police chase, get separated and meet months later at a palace in Lucknow, where Khalujaan is pretending to be a poet and is competing with Urdu poets to win the heart of a widowed heiress named Begum Para (Madhuri Dixit). While Khalujaan gets close to Begum, Babban finds himself warming up to Begums confidant, Muniya (Huma Qureshi), a brash, mysterious, sensual young woman. The story takes a turn when Begum Para gets kidnapped after she announces whom she wishes to marry.
